The UK men’s golf team was in action this weekend for the Schenkel Invitational at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.

The Cats carded a 3-over-par on Sunday, the fourth-lowest score of the day, and jumped four spots into a tie for sixth place for the tournament with an overall score of 883.

“We took a nice step forward this week and showed great character down the stretch,” head coach Brian Craig said to UK Athletics. “We have some specific areas of improvement to attack but I like the direction we are heading.”

Despite being tied for sixth place after 36 holes, Junior Ben Stow shot a 1-over-par, 73 in his final round to finish tied for ninth individually for the tournament.

Stow’s 1-under-par overall score was still a team high, however, and the UK transfer’s first top-10 finish of his career.

The low round of the week for the Cats belonged to senior Chase Parker with an even-par, 72, which caught the praise of his head coach.

“How about Chase Parker who birdied his last four holes today? That is all heart and great leadership from our senior and I could not be happier for him,” Craig said to UK Athletics.

UK returns to the links March 24-26 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Awendaw, S.C.

The UK women’s golf team was also competing over the weekend at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

The Cats finished tied for ninth at the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate tournament after shooting an 11-over-par 299 in their final round to post a 931 overall score.

Senior Betsie Johnson had her best tournament of the season this weekend, posting a 9-over-par, 225 to nab her first top-20 finish of the year.

Johnson shot a 2-over-par, 74 on Sunday to best her previous overall low of 232 at the Mason Rudolph Invitational and the Lady Puerto Rico Invitational.

Although struggling through the first two days of competition, senior Ashleigh Albrecht turned it around with a score of 2-over-par, 70 on Sunday.

Albrecht’s final round score was not only a team high for the tournament, but was tied for the fourth-highest score of the day.

UK returns to action March 22-24 at the LSU Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La.
