Softball to host NCAA Tournament regional

After a first-round loss in the SEC Tournament, No. 18 UK softball will have another chance to play in John Cropp Stadium this season as the Cats will host the Lexington Regional in the NCAA Tournament.

UK will be joined by Marshall, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. The games will be played May 17-19.

“We are very excited about hosting the NCAA Regional this weekend at John Cropp Stadium,” UK head coach Rachel Lawson said in a UK Athletics press release.

“After the crowds we had this week for the SEC Tournament, I know the Big Blue Nation is going to come out in droves to provide us with a home field advantage.”

Oklahoma received the overall No.1 seed with SEC champions Florida receiving the No. 2 seed. The Cats received the No. 12 seed.

The SEC leads all conferenes with 11 teams selected to the field of 64.

UK will take on Conference USA champions Marshall on Friday to start the double-elimination regional.

“Notre Dame, Virginia Tech and Marshall are three very good teams that present a lot of challenges,” Lawson said in the press release. “We are going to work hard this week in practice to get ready to go Friday night.”

The Cats and Herd are due to begin play at John Cropp Stadium at 7:30 p.m on Friday.
