UK Parking and Transportation Services announced that they purchased a digital space counter sign to accommodate the increased traffic around Press Avenue for the new $265 million research building beginning construction soon.

The construction requires the transfer of 200 employee (E) parking spots as a result of reserved (E+) spaces in the area shifting from the lot that is closing to the Press Avenue North Lot. PTS said there should be enough spots for employees, but that Parking Structure #6 — on Press Avenue — will likely fill up much faster, necessitating the sign.

“The space counter sign will allow drivers to avoid searching for space in the garage if the structure has already reached capacity,” PTS Marketing ad Promotions Specialist Chrissie Balding Tune said. “The digital space counter sign should be fully operational by the end of this week or early next week, barring any unforeseen issues.”

According to a UKNow press release, increased traffic is expected as early as Friday, Feb. 12. The cost of the new sign, not including the cost of instillation, is $12,800.

Employees who cannot park in PS #6 because of occupancy can also park in Commonwealth Stadium parking lots, the Scott Street Lot, the Taylor/Dickey Lot, the Reynolds Lot, and the South Limestone Garage, Parking Structure #5.
