Court records elaborated on the shooting of Corenz White at the University Trails apartment complex near campus Jan. 3.

Police quickly arrested Donald Owen Roark Jr., who was charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence, after responding to the shooting at 845 Red Mile Road.

Roark will appear in court for his preliminary hearing on Jan. 25.

According to court documents, Roark accompanied Corenz White, 28, and his brother, Cortez White, to a party that night.

Cortez White told police that he and his brother were at Roark’s home before going to the party. The brothers saw Roark loading the handgun used to shoot Corenz White before they left, according to court documents.

During the party, Roark and Corenz White got in an argument, so Roark pulled out the 38-caliber revolver to shoot Corenz White in the parking lot of the apartment complex, according to court documents.

A witness told police that he or she saw Roark shoot the handgun in the parking lot, then left the apartment complex. When the witness returned, he or she saw a security officer standing with the shooter in the parking lot, and saw Corenz White lying on the ground.

A second witness said he was driving through the parking lot, saw Corenz White lying on the ground and two other people standing nearby.

The witness went up to help, and then noticed that one person was holding a handgun. The witness overheard the person with the handgun say, “Why did you shoot my brother?”
