UK fans at Rupp Arena got to watch an extra game for free Thursday night as the Lexington Fire Department took to the court to help their fellow firefighter.

UK Athletics recently reached out to the Lexington Fire Department and offered to let them play a game during halftime, in support of Matt Logsdon, a 10 year veteran firefighter recently diagnosed with stage four cancer.

Logsdon was not in Rupp to see the game — he is currently receiving treatment in Chicago — but fellow firefighter and former UK Hoops player Nastassia Alcius said he would have enjoyed the camaraderie.

“Once you step into this profession … we look at each other like brothers and sisters,” Alcius said. “We’re very close knit, and we’re all here to support him and his family.”

Alcius thanked UK Athletics, saying the game was an “awesome opportunity” to raise awareness for the GoFundMe page raising money for Logsdon, his wife and three children.
