Allen, Bowden receive SEC Player of the Week honors

Two Kentucky football players, Josh Allen and Lynn Bowden Jr., are on the receiving end of SEC honors this week.

Senior linebacker/defensive end Allen, who is receiving his fourth league honor of the season, has been named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, while wide receiver/return specialist Bowden is Special Teams Player of the Week.

Allen helped the Kentucky defense force eight straight three-and-outs in the second half against Missouri Saturday, had 11 total tackles and two strip sacks. The senior leads the entire SEC and ranks second nationally in sacks with 10, leads the SEC and ranks third nationally in tackles for loss with 14.5 and ranks second nationally in forced fumbles with five.

Bowden caught 13 passes for 166 yards against the Tigers, returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown to turn the game around for Kentucky, and caught two passes in the Cats’ final 81-yard scoring drive. His 13 receptions are the second-most in a game in UK history.

No. 11 Kentucky returns to the field this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against the no. 6 ranked Georgia Bulldogs with a chance to clinch the SEC East championship.
