Upcoming football news

UK begins its 2008 football season on the road at archrival Louisville in a nationally televised meeting at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

The Cats and Cards are meeting for the 15th time since 1994. UK was victorious last year in a thrilling 40-34 win that spurred the Cats on to an 8-5 season and second consecutive Music City Bowl crown.

With football season kicking off this weekend, we have a lot on our plates at the Kernel. Our first two issues will be jam-packed with football news, including a story by Alex Risen (about replacing the leadership on the team) already posted to this site.

But the big fish is Friday, when we’ll publish the annual Pigskin Preview edition. It’s an entire section devoted to UK football, and in it we’ll include:

–Columnist Eric Lindsey’s game-by-game breakdown of the entire UK football season, where he tells you how he thinks the season will shake out.

–A story on head coach Rich Brooks’ expectations for his sixth season at the helm.

–Eric’s views on what UK needs to do to keep the football program heading in the right direction.

–Our SEC preview, in which we tell you who’s going to win the conference and why each and every team can or cannot compete for the conference crown.

–And much more.

But that’s not until Friday. Tomorrow, there will be video and audio of Brooks’ news conference at the Wildcat Den in Commonwealth Stadium. It’s the final news conference before the Louisville game, and we should have it up sometime tomorrow afternoon. Be sure to stop by and see what the head man has to say about the season opener.
