The UK football team opened its doors Monday morning to media members eager to evaluate the team’s progress through fall camp. After the open practice, these are the top takeaways from head coach Mark Stoops’ comments.

Depth remains a concern for Coach Stoops after Monday morning’s practice, but Stoops talked about how the team made a jump defensively over the past few days and it showed during Monday’s practice, with the defense making more plays.

Regarding the depth on the defensive end, keep an eye out for Kash Daniel and TJ Carter to get time as freshmen to help solve some of the problems on their end.

Eli Brown continues to have a very good camp. The redshirt freshman received praise from Stoops after the practice and put up against competition  Jordan Jones for a starting position at linebacker. Regardless of who gets the starting job come next Saturday, the competition throughout camp is sure to help the pair moving forwards.

Along with Eli Brown, fellow linebacker Kobie Walker has also had a very good camp and continues to improve. It is clear that he is very versatile as Coach Stoops noted and Walker could play a big role in the front seven.

Competition is at an all time high, but so is team chemistry. Between the breaks in between drills and after practice, it was pretty obvious that the players like to be around each other. It also showed out on the practice field with guys encouraging and helping each other. Coach Stoops took note and said the team is maturing all while staying together.

The Offense looks deep and talented. While depth may be a big concern on the defensive end, it is not so much on the offensive end with a very good group of receivers and running backs. Both groups look to be very competitive which will only help the team in the long run.
