‘Community policing’ initiatives gaining popularity on college campuses

Police (and campus police) departments have been under fire in recent years, making community relationships with officers less than efficient.

Several police departments, though, are seeking to improve those relations by more intensely integrating police officers into the community. Particularly campus police are working to actually get to know students and faculty around campus through ‘community policing,’ which promotes communicating with students and incorporating student engagement into daily police routines.
All of this works to make the community more comfortable with police officers and hopefully reduce crime.
