Kentucky club hockey (7-5-1) was defeated by Indiana University in two close matches over the weekend.

The first game began late on Friday night at the Frank Southern Ice Arena in Bloomington, Indiana, with Riley Allen starting at goalie for the Cats.

In the first period, a total of five goals were scored, three by Kentucky and two by Indiana. Kyle Burke scored Kentucky’s third goal of the period to put the team ahead going into the intermission.

The Hoosiers scored twice in the second period to go back ahead and added another in the third before Jake Laube scored his first career goal to cut the lead to one.

Indiana, however, scored another goal before the final buzzer to hand the Wildcats a 6-4 loss.

The second game was held on Saturday afternoon at Perry Park Ice Arena in Indianapolis with Alley Cutler starting in the net for Kentucky.

Cameron Chabot opened scoring for the game in the first period, and Dan Quartapella followed with a shorthanded goal to give the Wildcats an early 2-0 lead.

The lead was extended even further in the first period with a goal by Brett Quinn to extend the lead to 3-0.

That was all Kentucky could do in the game, though, as Indiana scored six unanswered goals in the first two periods and held on for a 6-3 win.

Kentucky will attempt to move back into the win column on Friday, Nov. 3, against Xavier University at the Queen City Sportsplex in Cincinnati. The Wildcats will face Xavier at home the next day.
