Kentucky STUNT fell for the first time this season. The Cats now stand at 7-1 on the season following their action in the Oklahoma Baptist Stunt Tournament.
The Wildcats faced both Arizona State and Texas Woman’s University, prevailing 33-12 and 28-11, respectively.
The Cats’ first match of the day was against Arizona State, where Kentucky was able to strike first, leading early in the partner stunts quarter.
The Wildcats claimed at least one point in all four routines, building a 6-2 lead to finish the first period.
In the second quarter, pyramids and tosses, the Cats continued their streak, outscoring the Sun Devils 6-2 to finish the period winning 12-4.
Kentucky continued its strong performance in the third quarter, jumps and tumbling, despite the Sun Devils tying on the first two routines.
By the final two routines, the Cats found their rhythm once again, scoring both points to finish the quarter with a solid 16-6 lead.
In the fourth quarter, the team’s routine, Kentucky earned one point to secure its 17-6 win over ASU.
In Friday’s game two, the Cats struck first again when they faced Texas Woman’s University for the first time in program history.
Kentucky was able to build a solid lead in the first quarter by claiming three of the four points, finishing the period 3-1.
In quarter two, the Wildcats extended their lead, taking five points to finish the half leading 8-4.
The Cats extended their lead in the third quarter to 13-7 after outscoring the Pioneers 5-3.
Kentucky finished the game on fire, putting up 15 points in the fourth quarter to secure the 28-11 win over TWU.
Kentucky finished play in Oklahoma on Saturday with a 28-15 win over Michigan State and a 29-26 loss to Oklahoma Baptist, their first of the season.
The Cats came in hot against Michigan State on day two, snatching an early lead. In the first quarter, partner stunts, Kentucky put up a quick four points to lead the Spartans 4-2 going into quarter two.
The second quarter, pyramids and tosses, proved to be just as successful for the Cats, who earned six points to lead 10-5 at the half.
UK extended its lead further in quarter three, earning five points compared to ASU’s three, leading 15-8 going into the fourth quarter.
By the fourth quarter, the Cats were racking up the points. Kentucky put up an impressive 13 points to secure the win over Michigan State, 28-15.
The Cats’ final game of the tournament was against Oklahoma Baptist, the second-ranked Division II team in the country.
The first quarter started with a tie, but the Bison quickly took the lead to finish the quarter 6-3.
Quarter two saw Kentucky begin to rally, scoring five points to cut the lead to 10-8 heading into the second half.
In a nail-biter of a third quarter, both teams put up five points to end the period with OBU leading 15-13
With it all coming down to the fourth quarter, the Cats fell just shy of the Bison to suffer their first loss of the season, 29-26.
