Kentucky rifle (12-1, 5-1) placed second at the GARC Championship in Morgantown, West Virginia, after freshman Liz Probst won silver in the individual final.
Day One
Probst posted a smallbore score of 588 in the preliminary round, which advanced her to the finals, where senior Ally Buesseler and junior Martin Voss also competed. Voss earned sixth, while Buesseler earned seventh.
In the relay portion of the competition, Probst controlled the lineup, earning 194 in kneeling, 199 in prone and 195 in standing. Voss followed up this performance with a 587, 95 in kneeling, 200 in prone and 192 in standing.
Junior Sofia Ceccarello, sophomore Braden Peiser and freshman Sam Adkins also had notable relay performances, earning a 586 and two 585s, respectively.
Kentucky came out of day one with a team score of 2,346, placing it second.
Day Two
Peiser started off the second day making history. He scored a perfect air rifle score of 600 and finished fifth in the individual final.
Adkins, Brandon Evans, Probst, Buesseler and Ceccarello posted 594s in the air rifle. Voss scored a 592, while junior AJ Hotko earned a 588.
The Cats finished in second place with a 2,346 in smallbore and a 2,382 in air rifle, totaling a 4,728 final team score. Kentucky finished just 10 points behind West Virginia.
The Cats’ final match of the season is the NCAA Rifle Championship, which will take place March 14-15 at the Historic Memorial Coliseum.
