Kentucky STUNT (4-0) opened its season by dominating in the Bluegrass Classic held at Historic Memorial Coliseum.
The Wildcats hosted the tournament, beating four teams over two days and setting a program record for most points in a game.
On Sunday, the Cats took on Alma and Ashland, finishing with scores of 33-25 and 30-9, respectively.
Monday, Kentucky was right back at it, facing off against Mercyhurst in a matchup that set the program record for most points in a game, 39-17.
Kentucky started this matchup by winning the toss, and the Wildcats quickly struck first in the quarter of partner stunts.
The Cats scored points on all four routines and quickly took the lead 5-2.
The first quarter concluded with both teams earning a point, leaving a fierce Kentucky team leading 6-3.
Quarter two started with the Wildcats picking the routine and quickly increasing the score to 8-4 despite the Lakers’ efforts.
The Wildcats continued to dominate in quarter two, pyramids and tosses, with Kentucky again scoring on all four routines, taking a 13-6 lead heading into the second half.
The third quarter began with the Lakers selecting the routine but falling short against the Wildcats as their streak grew.
In the third quarter, consisting of jumps and tumbling, the points continued to rain for the Cats. By the end of the period, UK had a solid lead of 20-10.
The Cats came in hot to start the fourth quarter and extend the lead to 25-12. Mercyhurst put up a fight but ultimately fell short to the Cats, who took home the win of 39-17.
The Wildcats immediately took on Northern Kentucky, following their victory over Mercyhurst, for a 22-0 complete shutout, their first of the season.
The Cats got another quick start in the first quarter and immediately started putting up the points against Northern Kentucky.
Despite going a round with no points awarded, UK outscored NKU 3-0 in the partner stunts quarter to establish an early lead.
In the second quarter, the Cats came in just as hot, taking all four points in pyramid and tosses with NKU failing to get on the board, giving UK a 7-0 lead going into the second half.
Kentucky again took all four points over the Norse in the third quarter to improve the lead to 11-0, allowing the Cats to have a total sweep of jumps and tumbling.
By the fourth quarter, the Cats were in complete control and quickly improved the lead to 14-0. Despite NKU’s best efforts, it was unable to get on the board.
The final quarter, team routine, ended with Kentucky taking 11 of 12 possible points, providing the final margin of victory.
The Wildcats were able to take home their second victory of the day and finish the series 4-0.
