Kentucky women’s soccer (9-4-2, 3-2-2 SEC) earned a 1-1 road draw against Ole Miss (4-6-2, 0-5-2 SEC), extending its three-game winless streak.
Kentucky found the majority of its offensive production from defender Anna Sikorski, who recorded seven shots with four on goal, including the team’s lone goal on a penalty kick in the 57th minute.
Sikorski, who in recent matches has been in a slump with a six-game pointless streak coming into the game, quickly got back on track with her offensive dominance against the Rebels.
With 17 points and starting in all 15 games this season, her consistency and resilience have been rewarding for the Wildcats, as she has tallied four multipoint games so far. This was another stellar game for Sikorski, helping out the team tonight.
Entering the Friday night contest, both Ole Miss and Kentucky were desperately in search of a win.
The Cats were looking for their first win in nearly two weeks, falling short since their upset against No. 25 Alabama, which was almost two weeks ago.
Ole Miss, a club that has been struggling in conference play, looks to break its five-game losing streak with a statement win at home.
Starting in the first 45 minutes, Ole Miss controlled the tempo of the game, creating some reasonable quality chances for players Timéa Thorel and Cassidy Kuehne.
Starting goalkeeper freshman Megan Holland faced continuous pressure in the box, making a significant adjustment that would ultimately pay off for the rest of the half.
Ole Miss opened the scoring first in the 41st minute from forward Mila Erceg, who is generally on the sideline for the Rebels in prior matches, validating the depth of the offense for the home team this evening.
Kentucky would respond in the second half with a penalty kick from Anna Sikorski. The Wisconsin native continues to show her dominance for the Wildcats this season.
Known for their aggressive playing style, the Wildcats outshot Ole Miss 24-11, once again demonstrating their ability in both shot production and penalty drawing.
With a fast-paced, offensive-driven game, both teams look to carry an energized result heading into their respective upcoming contests.
Kentucky looks to break its winless streak, returning to Lexington for its last home game of the year against No. 10 South Carolina on Thursday, Oct. 16.
