The future of Kentucky women’s basketball is looking bright as one of the top prospects in the country, Northern Kentucky native Jayden McClain, has officially announced her commitment to Kentucky during an unofficial visit to Lexington.
The Larry A. Ryle High School sophomore and daughter of former Cincinnati Bearcat Anthony McClain is ranked as the No. 12 overall player in the 2029 class, according to ESPN rankings.
Just last season, the 6-foot-6 center averaged 12.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 4.7 blocks per game. McClain was also an All-State Honorable Mention and is a four-star recruit.
McClain has been on the Ryle varsity team since the 2023-24 season, when she was just in seventh grade.
During her freshman year, McClain led Ryle to a 21-10 record, the 9th Region semifinals and shot a team-high 54.6% from the field.
At just 15 years old, McClain has attended both the 2025 and 2026 Women’s Junior National Team April minicamps.
McClain shared her decision on July 2 via her social media.
The sophomore chose the Wildcats over offers from Florida State, Cincinnati, Xavier, Mississippi State and Ohio State, among others.
Wildcat fans will welcome this in-state recruiting win, which keeps one of the nation’s most promising players close to home.
