UK’s offense responding well after Florida loss

After last Saturday’s close loss to Florida, many wondered how the Cats would respond in the following week coming off the devastating loss.

According to a couple of offensive players, they believe this was the best practice they’ve had on Tuesdays.

“It definitely was one of our better Tuesday practices,” Stephen Johnson said. “Everybody still a little upset from Florida but we’ve all moved on, ready to move on to Eastern Michigan.”

The thing that made Tuesday’s practice so great, according to players, was that everyone was focused and ready to get back to work.

Charles Walker said the team had that same focus last week when prepping for Florida, and if the Cats can maintain that level of focus throughout all practices, they would be hard to beat.

“We were really focused last week, and today we were too, but it definitely show on Saturday that when we are in the game and we don’t mistakes, we can be a deadly team,” Walker said.

Walker also said the team got out of practice 10 minutes early due to the offense’s efficiency of getting their work done.

If the Cats are as focused as the players make it seem, there should be no signs of a hangover against Eastern Michigan

Lynn Bowden could be in-line for more touches soon

Eddie Gran and Mark Stoops have praised Lynn Bowden many times since his commitment, but the young receiver has yet to make a big impact on the team.

Fans saw flashes of what Bowden could do when he juked two defenders and turned a loss of yards into almost a first down in the wildcat formation. It was arguably the best play Bowden has made since he’s been on campus.

“It was supposed to be a pass play, I got rushed, I just made a move,” Bowden said.

Fans have really only seen Bowden make plays in the wildcat formation on offense, an area that Bowden said he’s already comfortable with.

Heading forward however, Gran wants to find a way to get Bowden the ball in his hands, especially as a receiver.

“We’ve got a nice package for him, it will continue to grow,” Gran said. “We’ve got six, seven things that we’ve gone into every game with, and you’ll see a little bit more this week.”

However Bowden may contribute, whether it is as a rusher or receiver, Bowden just wants to help his team.

“If I get thrown in there at receiver, that’s what it is, wildcat, that’s what it is, I just want to do what’s best for the team,” Bowden said.

Charles Moushey taking advantage of opportunity

It’s not often that track athlete, specifically pole-vaulters, make impacts on a high-quality team, but that’s what Charles Moushey has done.

Against the Gators, Moushey made some great plays on special teams, including catching one of Matt Panton’s punts on Florida’s one-yard line.

However, none of those plays would have happened if it weren’t for special teams coach Dean Hood giving Moushey an opportunity.

“I’m just fortunate enough that coach Hood has given me an opportunity to just kind of let me show off my skills,” Moushey said.

Now taking full advantage of his opportunity, Moushey hopes to make more big plays on special teams, which he hopes excites the fans.

“I don’t know about the fans, but it’s pretty exciting for us, it’s basically like getting a huge hit,” Moushey said.
