No. 15 Oregon Ducks (5-3) run-rule Kentucky softball (6-4) 9-0.
Previously going 4-1 in the San Diego State Season Kickoff, The Stanford Invitational exposed Kentucky’s performance heavily, finishing the tournament 1-3.
Last season, the Wildcats had four tournaments in the beginning of the season before diving into conference play.
Despite an off game for the Wildcats, they have never been run-ruled in any of the previous games in the tournaments last season, and it’s usually the opposite for the Wildcats. In the 2025 tournaments, they have run-ruled opponents six times.
Prior to the invitational, they had ruled wins against Minnesota 8-0, and UC Santa Barbara 10-2.
This was not the kind of performance that the team is not used to as it looks to use this loss to regroup, and find a more effective playing style.
The Ducks prior to this game were coming off a 5-4 win over Cal State Fullerton hours before facing Kentucky. Momentum was a big factor in this game and Oregon had every bit of it from start to finish.
The Wildcats, who have recently split a doubleheader with No.13 Stanford, struggled heavily against the Ducks.
The outing for the Wildcats showcased one hit, three left-on-base and a deteriorated pitching rotation.
On the offensive side second baseman Allie Blum was the lone player to record a hit. Star right fielder Peyton Plotts also struggled at the plate, going 0-2 while also leaving two runners stranded.
Defensively, it was hard finding a rhythm going against the Oregon bats. Pitcher McKenzie Oslanzi came in for the Wildcats and was the only arm to have a decent pitching line.
Oslanzi recorded 2 innings pitched, which was the most by any Kentucky pitcher this game, while allowing two hits and a run.
In contrast to big-named arms like Sarah Haendiges, who only pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed four earned runs off three hits.
On the other side of the game, it was all gas no brakes for the Ducks offensively and defensively. RHP Taylour Spencer pitched a gem, going the distance and striking out 10 Wildcat batters.
Second baseman Kaylynn Jones had an outstanding game going 3-4, along with catcher Emma Cox going 2-2 including a solo home run.
