A woman was killed after a single-vehicle accident in Boone County during the early morning hours of July 16, according to FOX 19

The woman was identified as Lauren Collins.

Collins, 18, was a University of Kentucky student majoring in merchandise, apparel and textiles, Director of Issues Management and Crisis Communications, Whitney Siddiqi said in an email to the Kernel.

The investigation revealed that Collins was traveling in the southbound lanes of I-75 around 12:15 a.m. when her windshield was struck by a tire, FOX 19 said.

Deputies said that it is believed that a pickup truck was traveling northbound when its tire broke away, rolled over a concrete barrier and struck Collin’s windshield.

After sustaining life-threatening injuries, Collins was transported to UC Medical Center by Walton Fire Department medics, the sheriff’s department said.

“She succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, deputies confirmed,” FOX 19 said.

Since the accident, deputies have been unable to locate a vehicle missing a tire on northbound I-75.

FOX 19 said that anyone with a lead for the investigation can call Sergeant Jeff Nagy at 859-334-8466.
