UK student found dead at Newtown Crossing

Richard Mudd, 22, who attended the Bluegrass Community and Technical College and had been accepted to the UK Gatton College of Business and Economics, was found dead at his Newtown Crossing apartment on May 28 after neighboring residents complained of a foul odor, according to Lexington Police.

After a maintenance employee discovered the body, the Lexington Police Homicide unit was called to the scene.  No foul play was suspected.  According to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office, the death was most likely the result of natural causes; however, the autopsy’s results are pending.

According to the Courier Journal, Mudd was born in Louisville and a graduate of St. Xavier High School.  He was active in the Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his parents, Joe and Debbie Mudd, of Shelbyville; one brother, Christopher Mudd, of Lexington; one sister, Sarah Mudd, of Waco, Texas.
