According to a report by ESPN.com’s Marc Stein, the New Jersey Nets have been fined $50,000 after minority owner Jay-Z visited the Cats in their locker room after UK’s 76-69 victory over North Carolina in the Elite Eight.

The rapper’s ties to an NBA team meant his trip to offer congratulations for the Cats’ Final Four berth violated league rules that prohibit contact with players who still have collegiate basketball eligibility remaining.

In the ESPN.com story, Stein likens the situation to the one the Boston Celtics experienced in 2007. Boston general manager Danny Ainge was deemed to have “excessive contact with the family” of then-Texas Longhorn Kevin Durant after sitting next to Durant’s mother during the Big 12 Tournament.

The Celtics were fined $30,000 for Ainge’s violation.
