Men’s tennis, softball continue postseason Saturday

Even though school has been out for a few weeks now, UK teams weren’t done then, and aren’t done now.

The No. 21 softball team beat No. 20 Notre Dame 8-0 in the opening round Friday. Ace Chanda Bell got the win and UK hit a pair of two-run homers. (Read more here.)

UK will play No. 10 Michigan on ESPN at noon today.

In tennis, No. 10 UK took down No. 7 Florida in the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament just weeks after Florida swept UK in the SEC Tournament final. UK captured the doubles point — the first time they had done so against Florida — and then took the three needed singles wins to advance. UK’s fourth seed (No. 90 Alberto Gonzalez), fifth seed (Anthony Rossi) and sixth seed (Tom Jomby) all won their matches as their higher-seeded teammates (first seed Eric Quigley and third seed Brad Cox) lost.
