Kentucky Pros game running into issues

Even though the contract was reportedly finalized Wednesday night, the upcoming exhibition game between former UK players and the Dominican national team ran into multiple issues that resulted in changes to the plans.

Because UK has no involvement in the production of the event, the team could no longer be referred to as “UK Legends” or “Kentucky Pros,” as it was previously (UK Legends was the name Calipari tweeted). The official release reflected this, stating that an exhibition game between the Dominican team and “several NBA players” was occurring. And after introducing the Dominican team roster, the release said “Their opponent will consist of eight NBA players.” At no point did the release mention all the NBA players were former UK players.

Matt Jones then reported, with no attribution, that there would be no television broadcast and Joe B. Hall would not be allowed to coach the group of UK players as previously scheduled (Calipari had tweeted that Hall would be coaching the team).

John Clay confirmed with a ProCamps spokesman that Hall could not coach. He additionally reported that Sam Bowie could not coach, either, because the two are regarded as honorary participants because they are not playing.

Attempts to reach the NCAA for comment have been unsuccessful.
