UK basketball non-conference schedule set

Here’s the list, in order (games played at Rupp Arena in bold):

Nov. 11 — Marist

Nov. 15 — Kansas (played at Madison Square Garden in New York)

Nov. 19 — Penn State (played in Connecticut)

Nov. 20 — Old Dominion or South Florida (played in Connecticut)

Nov. 23 — Radford

Nov. 26 — Portland

Dec. 1 — St. John’s

Dec. 3 — North Carolina

Dec. 10 — Indiana (played in Bloomington, Indiana)

Dec. 17 — Chattanooga

Dec. 20 — Samford

Dec. 22 — Loyola (Maryland)

Dec. 28 — Lamar

Dec. 31 — Louisville

Jan. 3 — Arkansas-Little Rock (played in Louisville)

That’s 16 teams from 11 different leagues (factoring in both Old Dominion and South Florida, although UK will only play one). Six of those squads were in the NCAA Tournament a year ago, including two Elite Eight teams.

Calipari has consistently noted the importance of playing a tough non-conference schedule to NCAA Tournament seeding and success. With teams like Kansas, St. John’s, North Carolina and Louisville, UK will have the opportunity to notch some signature wins early in the season.

UK will also play two exhibitions in Lexington — Nov. 2 against Transylvania and Nov. 7 against Morehouse.
