The first endowed chair in the UK College of Pharmacy has been created, a news release said Monday.

A 1959 alumnus of the college, Larry H. Spears, donated $1 million to create a pharmacogenetics chair, the release said. The Research Challenge Trust Fund will match the donation by $200,000.

Pharmacogenetics is a field that studies how patients will react to medications before taking them.
