Enes Kanter is currently playing basketball with the Turkish national team. He at least has that. But even so, it’s been a long time since he’s been with a regular team, and that angle was the forefront of a Kanter profile in the Deseret News. Two interesting quotes:

From Kanter: “It’s easy for me to say that I am the unluckiest guy ever. I couldn’t play in college, and right now there is the lockout. The only thing I can do is just wait.”

From Nihat Izic, assistant coach of the Turkish team and who has known Kanter since he was a child: “Enes was always a big kid and pushed the other kids around. He’s always had the competitive mentality. That is inside of him. And if they are patient in Utah, they will see he can be a very important player.”

In other Sunday news, Darius Miller had the following stat line in a U.S. win: 7 points (2-3 FG), 3 rebounds, 0 assists, 2 steals in 17 minutes off the bench. That’s been about standard for Miller in the competition, which is nearing a close. The U.S. team won’t medal after losing earlier to Lithuania — it will be the first time ever the U.S. hasn’t medaled in this competition.
