At his Monday press conference, UK head coach Joker Phillips announced that sophomore quarterback Maxwell Smith is out indefinitely with a torn ligament in his ankle.

Phillips said Smith plans to have surgery to repair the torn ligament in his left ankle.

Plans are now in the works for the Cats to remove the redshirt of freshman Patrick Towles, who Phillips said will be the backup to freshman Jalen Whitlow.

According to Phillips, packages will be available for both quarterbacks to receive a varying amount of playing time.
