UK women’s tennis continued its winning ways Tuesday by defeating all three opponents in a rare triple-header.

The Cats started their day by defeating in-state foe Eastern Kentucky University 4-0 Tuesday morning.

UK (9-2) won the doubles point thanks to an 8-2 win in the clincher by freshman Nadia Ravita and junior Caitlin McGraw.

In singles play, Ravita, McGraw and senior Jessica Stiles each won in straight sets clinching the match for the Cats.

In the second match of the day UK took down another in-state opponent, Northern Kentucky University, again winning 4-0.

The match was played in non-traditional format with singles coming before doubles. UK took all singles contests in straight sets.

Sophomore Stephanie Fox won 6-0, 6-0 to give the Cats the early lead with Ravita finishing right behind her, also winning 6-0, 6-0.

Freshman Kirsten Lewis then recorded another 6-0, 6-0 win. McGraw was the only player to drop a game for the Cats as she took her victory 6-0, 6-3.

When asked about Fox, UK head coach Carlos Drada said, “She has been a rock so far, and she has fun playing which makes it that much better. She is becoming a leader for this time, because she likes to lead by example.”

The final match of the day pitted the Cats against Division II side No. 3 Abilene Christian. The Cats used their depth and experience to defeat Abilene Christian 5-2.

The Cats dropped the doubles point for the only time Tuesday, but fought back by winning the first three singles matches to take a 3-1 lead. The clinching point came from Fox, who swept her opponent 6-2, 6-3.

Lewis rounded off the marathon day of tennis by losing a three-set heart breaker, while freshman Cece Witten won in straight sets to make the final score 5-2.

“This was a great day for us,” Drada said following the final match. “This is the first time a triple-header has been done here at UK and I am really proud of our players’ performance.”
