UK sophomore centerfielder Austin Cousino has added another title to his ever-growing list of accomplishments.

Baseball America announced Thursday that Cousino is their preseason Southeastern Conference Player of the Year.

Cousino is heading into the Cats’ upcoming campaign after a solid first season in college baseball.

In 2012 he was named the SEC Freshman of the Year after leading UK in batting average with .319.

After the Cats crashed out of the NCAA Tournament in the first round in a martathon 21-inning loss to Kent State, Cousino linked up with the USA Collegiate National Team to lead the squad in hitting.

UK baseball gets its season underway next Friday, Feb. 15, when the Cats take on UNC-Asheville in Spartanburg, S.C., the first of six road games to open the season.

Murray State will provide the opposition for the Cats’ home opener at Cliff Hagan Stadium on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
