Track sets records in weekend meets

UK track and field saw a series of records tumble this past weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin.

Freshman Rebecca Famurewa won the discus title with a mark of 53.22m on Saturday.

Famurewa now holds the freshman record at UK and her mark ties fourth best in school history.

The Cats also claimed some event titles at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati.

Junior Hiruni Wijayaratne set a personal record in the women’s 1500m with a time of 4:34.94 minutes landing her first place.

Senior Megan Wright placed third with a time of 4:35.95 minutes.

Sophomore Sean Keane won the 800m with a time of 1:51.52 minutes at the Nikoloff Invitational.

Junior Kayla Parker set the second fastest time is UK history in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.20 seconds placing her fifth in the finals.

The Cats will continue their outdoor season this upcoming weekend at the Florida Relays, Crimson Tide Invite and Bellarmine Invitational.
