UK lost a valued member of its community on Sunday.

Jonathan Brigham, a chemistry and biology junior, suffered a heart attack while jogging on May 7, and passed away Sunday afternoon.

Brigham, or as some of his friends knew him, “J Brigs,” was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.

Those closest to him remember his determination and kind heart.

“John was one of the nicest people you’d ever meet,” mathematical economics and mathematics sophomore Roshan Palli said.

Palli was a fraternity brother of Brigham, and said Brigham spent a lot of his time studying in the library.

“He spent endless hours in the library,” Palli said. “He wanted to get the best education possible.”

Material science engineering freshman, and Brigham’s fraternity little, Edward Fraiser said Brigham was a hardworking student.

“He was probably the most hardworking person I know. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody more determined than him,” Fraiser said. “He never strayed away from what needed to be done.”

Marketing senior and Brigham’s close friend Alexander Bodenheimer said Brigham went out of his way to make sure his friends were happy.

“He was pretty much the kind of kid who would go above and beyond and out of his way to make sure you were happy. He’d do pretty much anything for anyone, all you had to do was ask,” Bodenheimer said.

Bodenheimer said Brigham was well liked and enjoyed meeting new people.

“Everyone was really drawn to him. He really had a way of appreciating life,” Bodenheimer said.

A candlelight vigil was held behind Memorial Hall on Monday night.
