Former UK basketball player Richie Farmer could face up to two years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of misappropriation of state funds.

Farmer, 44, is in agreements to plead guilty to the charges that accuse him of misusing more than $450,000 of the state’s money when he was agriculture commissioner, according to a press release by Farmer’s attorney J. Guthrie True.

Farmer is accused of hiring friends for unnecessary tasks and paying them with state money, according to the April indictment.

All of the federal charges against Farmer relate to his time as Commissioner of Agriculture for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 2003 and 2007.

The indictment also accuses Farmer of spending state funds for personal clothing and room and board for he and his family.

The date has not yet been set for Farmer to enter his guilty plea.
