UK Baseball had its top pitcher placed on the midseason watch list for college baseball’s most prestigious award, the Golden Spikes Award.

Senior right handed pitcher Dustin Beggs was recently named to USA Baseball’s midseason watch list for the award which given to the top amateur baseball player in the country.

The watch list, which was announced this past Wednesday, contained 60 names, 14 of whom play in the SEC.  Those 14 for the conference includes players such as Peter Alonso and Logan Shore of Florida; Bryan Reynolds, Kyle Wright and Jeren Kendall of Vanderbilt; Clarke Schmidt and Braden Webb of South Carolina.

Beggs is currently 7-1 on the year with a 2.30 ERA over 70.1 innings pitched and is holding hitters to a .188 batting average against him. He has also only allowed 48 hits over those innings, adding 59 strikeouts and only nine walks.

Beggs is looking to become the second Cats player to win the award after UK great A.J. Reed won in 2014.
