Bevin announces U of L president’s departure, removes Board of Trustees

Kentucky governor Matt Bevin addresses the Commonwealth with his budget for the next two years on Tuesday at the Capitol building in Frankfort. The budget included a $110 million cut from UK’s state general funding over the next two years.

Gov. Matt Bevin announced Friday morning during a press conference that University of Louisville President James Ramsey will step down from his position. 

Bevin also removed the university’s Board of Trustees, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported. Bevin told reporters he was seeking “a fresh start” after multiple controversies at U of L earlier this year.

Bevin is appointing a three-member board to serve while the Council on Postsecondary Education submits 30 names for Bevin to select 10 members from.
