Former UK student appointed US ambassador to Liberia

Christina Ann Elder, a former UK student, has been named the United States ambassador to Liberia. 

In a press release on Tuesday, UKNow said Elder expressed her gratitude for the current cooperation between the U.S. and Liberia, a West African nation, and described the relationship as unique. 

“This is a unique partnership and we have come to improve upon it and take on a higher level,” Elder said in the press release. “We will stand … with you shoulder to shoulder.” 

Elder received her bachelor’s degree at UK and her master’s degree from George Washington University, according to the press release. Her career has focused on civil and foreign service. 

The Lexington Alumnae chapter of of Alpha Omicron Pi said in a Facebook post Elder participated in the sorority while she attended UK.
