What sets Broomwagon Coffee + Bikes apart from other businesses is the fact that it is a café, beer garden and bike shop wrapped up into one. Customers can purchase or repair their bikes all while grabbing a coffee or bite to eat.

The shop offers a local feel and is a perfect place to sit down and study for a few hours.

Broomwagon Bikes & Coffee first opened its doors Nov. 6, 2015.

“The vision is to create a community hub for bike culture,” said Adam Drye, an employee at Broomwagon.

Broomwagon hosts  many events, including Cranksgiving coming up Nov. 12. Cranksgiving is an event for a very good cause where everyone comes and hops on their bikes and rides around to grocery stores collecting groceries for a canned food drive.

Last year, Cranksgiving had around 75 participants, and are hoping to see around 100 people this year.

“Cranksgiving started, nationally, in 1999 in New York City. Locally, our inaugural event was held in 2010,” said James Gonyer, one of Broomwagon’s owners.

For prize eligibility each participant will be required to gather 12 items to donate to God’s Pantry Food Bank, said Gonyer. This year they are expecting to have as many as 1,200 items to deliver.

Following Cranksgiving is the after party where Broomwagon is hosting its very first Harry Potter trivia night where guests can test how much they know about their favorite Harry Potter movies.

The Harry Potter trivia night will be at 6 p.m. and guests are encouraged to dress up as characters from the series. Broomwagon will be providing Harry Potter-themed drink specials as well. Prizes for first, second and third place will be given out, as well as forbest costume.

The cost is $5 per person attending the trivia night, and the proceeds go towards Lexington Community Radio.

Every Friday it hosts team trivia night from 7-9 p.m. with help from Local Trivia Action.

“We usually have standard team trivia night every Friday, so this is the first time we are hosting a Harry Potter trivia night,” said Drye.

Broomwagon hosts many other events as well. On Monday nights, guests are encouraged to come out and enjoy drinks, food and a live, local band.  Many bands that have played before come from Richmond, Berea, and many other places across the Bluegrass.

On Tuesday nights, they have open-mic comedy nights from 6-9 p.m. Every other Sunday they have game nights where guests can hang out with friends, and play their favorite board games.
