UK adds another five-star player in Kevin Knox

John Calipari is known to be one of the best college basketball recruiters in the country, and he proved that to be true again on Saturday evening.

Kevin Knox, one of the few remaining five-star prospects in the 2017 class, announced his commitment to the Cats on Saturday evening, becoming the sixth eighth player to join the 2017 recruiting class.

Knox’s chose the Cats over Duke, Florida State, Mizzou and national champion UNC. Knox’s decision was a surprising one, as he was expected to choose either Duke or UNC to play for next season.

Knox will now join a recruiting class that features five additional five-star recruits, and two four-star recruits. UK currently has the No. 1 ranked 2017 recruiting class, and Knox’s commitment only makes that ranking more firm.

Knox has had a busy season leading up to his commitment, playing in many postseason all star games, including the McDonalds All-American game. Knox dropped 15 points in that game, third most out of all players.

In his senior year of high school basketball at Tampa Catholic High School, Knox averaged 28.9 points and 11.3 rebounds per game according to Maxpreps. Knox is a prolific scorer who will surely provide a spark on offense for next year’s team.

The commitment of Knox is a big boost to Calipari’s 2017 class, but Calipari is still looking to add one more five-star recruit to the class in Mohamed Bamba. Bamba has not announced his plans of commiting to a college yet.

The addition of Knox is huge for the Cats, but if next year’s team also features Bamba, UK will be in a good spot to chase their ninth national title.
