UK launched a new app called Campus Chrome in partnership with JMI Sports, a full-service collegiate marketing firm, according to UKNow.

The app features common college links, an official map of UK, the UK student portal, contests, coupons and specials to local businesses. Campus Chrome’s website features deals around the area.

“We are excited to collaborate with our partners at the University of Kentucky to launch Campus Chrome this fall,” Paul Archey, president of UK Sports & Campus Marketing, said. “This new app will provide students and all users in Central Kentucky access to some of the best deals and promotions around, and provides local companies with a new avenue to effectively reach their target customers directly on their phones.”

For a varying fee based on advertising packages, businesses can create a profile and add photos of their merchandise and products, as well as any coupons and specials offered to UK students. The businesses also receive a window decal for their storefront featuring the Campus Chrome logo.

One local business close to campus that uses the service, Rose & Lime, said they really like what Campus Chrome has to offer.

“This is a direct link from the business to the student, with incentives that are mutually beneficial,” a representative for the boutique said.

Some other participants include Mad Mushroom, Sleep Outfitters, Supercuts, Jeff’s Car Wash and many more.

The app was launched Aug. 20 in both the App Store and Google Play.
