The NCAA Division I Infractions Appeals Committee announced Tuesday that the University of Louisville men’s basketball team must vacate records in which ineligible players competed, including 123 wins and the 2011-12 through 2014-15 seasons. That means that Louisville will lose its 2013 national title and 2012 Final Four appearance.

The university will also return money it received for appearing in the 2012-2015 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championships.

This decision comes after an extensive investigation into ethics violations committed by university staff by hiring escorts for potential recruits. The university appealed a ruling made by the Committee on Infractions, citing that the punishments were excessive, though the appeals committee found that the violations were intentional and occurred several times, therefore making this penalty appropriate.
