No. 45 Kentucky womens tennis triumphs over Mizzou 4-1

No. 45 Kentucky womens tennis traveled to Columbia, Missouri, on Friday where it defeated the Tigers 4-1 to move to 11-7 on the season.

Coming into the match, Kentucky was ranked inside the ITA top 50 for the first time this season, with Florencia Urrutia also receiving her highest ranking of No. 48.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point in sweeping fashion, starting with Ellie Eades and Zoe Hammond winning their match 6-0.

Securing the doubles point was newly ranked doubles pair No. 63 Carlota Molina and Lizzy Stevens who defeated Inah Canete and Mae Canete 6-2.

Moving into singles play, senior Maialen Morante finished quickly, defeating Andrea Artimedi in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Giving Mizzou its only point of the match to make the score 2-1 was Inah Canete who beat Hammond 6-3, 7-5.

In a ranked matchup on court one, No. 48 Urrutia took down No. 75 Mae Canete 6-4, 6-3

Clinching the match for Kentucky was Molina who defeated Emelie Schwarte 6-2, 7-5 in the tiebreaker for the second set. The remaining matches went unfinished.

The win marks Kentucky’s third SEC victory for the season.

The Wildcats will prepare for their next conference matchup of the weekend against No. 65 Arkansas. The match will take place on Sunday, March 26, at noon EST in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
