No. 23 Kentucky women’s golf traveled to Hilton Head, SC this week to participate in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.

The Wildcats struggled on day one finishing in 14th out of 17 participating teams.

Leading the way for Kentucky after the first round was senior Jensen Castle who was tied for 12th shooting one over par, 72. Castle started off strong going –1 on the front nine but had three bogeys on the back.

The next closest Wildcat was Laney Frye who was five over par with a 76. Frye was also –1 after the front nine but fell apart in beginning on hole 9, shooting two doubles and a bogey.

Moving into day two of the intercollegiate Castle made up for some lost ground on day one, while the team remained in 14th.

A horrific start to the round for Castle shooting four over with four bogeys on the front nine.

However, the senior came out on fire for the back nine with five birdies, starting quickly on hole

No.1 chipping one in for her first birdie. The next came on hole par-3-hole No. 8, which helped her shoot –1 on the day moving to seventh place.

Senior Marrisa Wenzler improved 20 spots overall after shooting an even par for the day with three birdies and 13 pars.

Although the team remained in 14th place, they improved by 10 strokes shooting 11 over par.

In the final round of the tournament the Wildcats had their lowest score of the intercollegiate with a 294, 10 over par to finish fifteenth.

Castle went one over par for her last round in the tournament, with her fourth top 10 finish so far this season.

Frye also shot one over par to finish in 53rd place, followed by Wentzler who finished 66th.

Kentucky looks to rebound from their rough weekend on March 17-19 in the Florida State Match-Up at Seminole Legacy.
