Cats stumble against LSU for fourth straight loss

Kentucky lost 67-48 against LSU on Sunday afternoon. With the loss Kentucky now move to 8-8 on the season.
The loss on Sunday marked Kentucky’s fourth consecutive loss. The Cats still have not won a game in the SEC so far with a 0-4 record in league play.
In what seems to be a common theme this season, Kentucky started the matchup slowly with a 5-0 LSU advantage to start the game.
With the score close at 19-17 with 5:52 left in the first half, LSU went on a 10-0 run to end the first half up 31-17 and never looked back.
Kentucky would shoot just 34% from the field on Sunday despite Maddie Scherr having a career-high 22 points on the day.
Kyra Elzy’s squad has had shooting problems all season despite her believing that her team are better shooters than what the stats say.
“I do think it is somewhat mental. We are better shooters than what we are showing, but I think overall we have to have a little more mental toughness. So, when we miss one or two, you need to start thinking I’m going to hit the next one. Where I think it becomes a confidence issue like, I miss one or two, and then it starts playing in our minds. So, we have to play in fast forward instead of rewind, but you know we go back to work. “ Elzy said. “They are capable of shooting the ball and I have total confidence in them and how we can help them continue to work on game-speed shots out of our offense, and let them see the ball go in the basket. That’s what we have to do and on top of them getting extra shots to remain confident.”
Robyn Benton also had respectable numbers with 11 points from 27 minutes while Nya Leveretter and Blair Green both had three points.
LSU found more success from the field shooting 40%. Angel Reese had a great performance for the Tigers scoring 26 points and racking up 13 boards. Flau’jae Johnson also scored 26 points with eight rebounds.
Kentucky looks to rebound on Thursday, hosting the top team in the country No.1 South Carolina at Memorial Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on SECN+.
