Thompson to participate in State Farm 3-Point Championship

Janee Thompson is a native of Chicago who has made an impressive statement at UK as a guard for the women’s basketball team. Not only did she find her way on UK’s all-time list for assists and finish her career with 1,015 points, she continues to add to her list of accomplishments.

Thompson has been selected to the women’s 3-point roster for the 28th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championship at the Berry Center in Cypress, Texas.

Intersport invited 24 of the nation’s best men and women college basketball players to compete in the event. There are eight dunkers, along with eight men and eight women shooters. Thompson is one of the eight women college basketball players chosen for the event.

The UK senior averaged 12.6 points per game for the Cats with 4.8 assists per game. She finished with 347 assists in her career. She had six or more assists in 13 games, which is the most games a player had six-plus assists in a season while Matthew Mitchell has been at UK.

This year Thompson had assist-point double-doubles on two separate occasions this year with 16 points and 10 assists against both Eastern Michigan and LSU.

Thompson was 56-for-144 from behind the arc in her final season at UK. According to a release by Intersport, the producers of the event, Thompson was invited to take part in the event after being recognized as one of the finest shooters for 3-point territory during the season.

The event will air live on ESPN at 9 p.m. on Thursday.
