Spring is here, and if the time of the month wasn’t indication enough, the weather has proven that point. With volatile Kentucky weather, making a choice on what to wear means having to worry about it being cold, rainy and hot all in one day.

If you’re anything like the rest of world’s population that pays attention to the way they dress, you know that deciding what to wear is hard. But maybe all those algebraic equations learned in high school secretly have the answer to deciding outfits for the week. Plug in your mood, the forecast and your favorite color to get to an answer.

Sadly, such an equation doesn’t exist. We must rely on inspiration and intuition to figure out just what outfit would be the best fit for the day. But how, when the inspiration just won’t bloom and sweatpants start looking better and better, do you figure out what to wear? The answer isn’t concrete, because at the end of the day, it’s up to personal decision. Still, there are a few tips that are guaranteed to make the process easier.

The first tip to getting ready quickly in the morning is to know your closet. Not just how many pairs of jeans you have, but what the wash and style of each pair is and how well they fit. This allows you to envision the possibilities without pulling out all the contents of your closet. Knowing the color scheme is important too because it helps you understand your preferences and makes matching simpler.

The second tip to having a successful morning of clothing decision is pre-thinking. Avoid making your outfit choice a last-minute decision. Make a habit of laying out two or three possible choices and you’ll see your morning productivity increase.

This premeditating process doesn’t just include clothing, however. Always make sure to check the weather because you’ll have a better idea of what you might need. You might need shorts in the morning, rain boots and a windbreaker at noon and by dinnertime a down jacket.

The real game changer, and next tip, is layering.

Any pro-fashionista can attest to the power of layering. The easiest way to always be prepared to layer is to have cardigans and a leather jacket on deck. Adding a light jacket can completely transform a look and sometimes a stylish jacket can be an outfit in itself.

Other articles of clothing that are essential to the layering process are accessories. A scarf can go a long way, jewelry can make even a plain T-shirt fashion-forward, and if hats are your style, the possibilities become endless. Never be afraid of wearing too much.

If at the end of the day, you still can’t bring yourself to a decision and Pinterest just doesn’t have the answers, take a tip from a professional. Karl Lagerfeld once said, “One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress.”
