After beating Ole Miss on Thursday, the UK Women’s tennis team couldn’t close out 28th ranked Mississippi State on Saturday. Losing their match with the Bulldogs 4-2, UK still owns a promising 14-6 overall record. However, its SEC play could see some improvement, as the Cats own a 3-6 record.

The Cats started out with a commanding 2-0 lead over the Bulldogs behind star sophomore Mami Adachi. Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi took the first court of doubles to shut down the star SEC doubles pairing of Madison Harrison and Kristina Vozniak of the Bulldogs. Giving the pairing their first loss of the season with a score of 6-3, Adachi and Sutjiadi grabbed the first point of the match for the Cats.

Adachi then took the fifth singles court and quickly routed Vozniak to secure the 2nd point of the day for the Cats with wins of 6-2 and 6-3.

Unfortunately, that was all of the highlights for UK on Saturday.

Mississippi State won four of six singles to clinch the match. On the fourth court for the Bulldogs, No. 100-ranked Anastasia Rentouli beat Akvilė Paražinskaitė 6-2, 6-2.

Jennifer Brown of Mississippi State, playing on court six, also got by pretty easily against UK’s Kirsten Lewis 6-1, 6-2. With the match now tied, No. 13-ranked Bulldog star Jasmine Lee defeated No. 76-ranked Justina Mikulskytė 7-5, 6-3.

Then to clinch the match, on court two, No. 71-ranked Georgiana Patrasc provided a grinding comeback over No. 49-ranked Aldila Sutjiadi 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The Cats travel for their third and fourth straight road matches next weekend to challenge No. 24 Arkansas and No. 71 Missouri. UK will face Arkansas at 1 p.m. on Friday and will then travel to Missouri and face the Tigers at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
