Kentucky men’s basketball earned a No. 7 seed by the NCAA selection committee in the annual Selection Sunday show.
The Wildcats will make their fifth straight NCAA tournament appearance, extending their NCAA record to 63 all-time appearances.
Kentucky will head to St. Louis in the Midwest region, facing No. 10 Santa Clara. Before facing either No. 2 Iowa State or No. 15 Tennessee State.
The No. 1 seed in the region is Michigan, and while they fell earlier today in the Big Ten championship, they ended the season as the conference’s regular-season champion with a 19-1 record.
If Kentucky were to advance to the Sweet Sixteen, it would face either No. 6 Tennessee, No. 11 Miami (Ohio)/SMU, No. 3 Virginia, or No. 14 Wright State.
Two other SEC teams also earned bids in the Midwest region, with No. 8 Georgia facing St. Louis and No. 4 Alabama facing No. 13 Hofstra.
Kentucky’s season ended in the Sweet Sixteen last season, falling to Tennessee after beating both Troy and Illinois under first-year head coach Mark Pope.
Ten other SEC schools received bids for the tournament, and along with them, UNC, Gonzaga, St. John’s, Michigan State and Louisville, giving Kentucky an even record of 13-13 against the 2025 NCAA tournament field.
Kentucky ended the season 19-12 and 10-8 in the SEC, going 2-1 in the SEC tournament, beating both LSU and Missouri before falling to the SEC regular-season champions, the Florida Gators.
The NCAA tournament is set to kick off on Tuesday, March 17 and Wednesday, March 18, with the First Four in Dayton.
Miami (Ohio) will face off against SMU for the No. 11 seed in the Midwest region, while Texas and NC State will face off for the No. 11 seed in the West region.
Kentucky will begin its path to the NCAA championship on Friday, March 20, facing the No. 10 Santa Clara Broncos inside the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
