Showers and thunderstorms will roll across Kentucky on Wednesday, March 11, with strong to severe storms possible, according to the National Weather Service.
Storm risk will be the greatest into Wednesday, the NWS said, with Southern Indiana and northern Kentucky to be affected Wednesday morning and regions across Kentucky in the evening.
The first round of storms, affecting northern Kentucky, will take place from 4-10 a.m., and the second round, affecting Lexington, from 2-8 p.m.
As of publication, the NWS has medium confidence in severe weather, and said damaging winds will be the main hazard, with spin-up tornadoes and severe hail being secondary threats.
Central Indiana and central Kentucky are also under a wind advisory Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., the NWS said.
Nearing the end of the week, the weather will be drier and temperatures will drop.
The University of Kentucky is rarely altered by severe weather, according to its website, but if there is a change in the university’s status, in terms of delay or closure, the university will send a UK Alert. In the event of severe weather, UK has tips and crews prepared.
