Senior first baseman Karissa Hamilton delivered another strong performance at the plate helping Kentucky defeat IU Indy, 9-1.
Kentucky (19-4) took on IU Indy (3-19) at John Cropp Stadium, where Hamilton proved she has been one of the Wildcats’ most consistent offensive threats this season.
Hamilton started the game off strong for the Wildcats in the first inning with an RBI-triple, allowing for her fellow Cats, Peyton Plotts and Allie Blum, to score. Carly Sleeman came up next to the plate where she flew out, however Hamilton still advanced home.
Going a perfect 3-3 on the night batting, the senior from Flat Rock, Indiana also found herself with a single, double, triple, and three RBIs as the night ended.
Hamilton always clutches up when it counts the most. Her freshman year she had a walk-off three-run home run vs. Louisville on opening day in the NFCA Lead-Off Classic and six RBIs in game two vs Mississippi State.
When the lights shine brighter in the high-pressure moments, Hamilton never shies away.
“Trusting myself that I can do my own job and the person behind me can do the exact same thing as I can brings confidence to myself,” Hamilton said.
In the third inning, Hamilton found herself pulling through once again with an RBI-double and bringing Blum home once again.
Additionally, Feb. 20 vs NIU, Hamilton had the second cycle in school history. Her passion and aggressiveness show through in the way she plays her game.
“It’s my senior year and I’m not trying to take anything for granted, and I’m always playing with a chip on my shoulder,” Hamilton said. “I always want to take every opportunity to have fun and just stay relaxed as well.”
So far this season, Hamilton currently leads the Wildcats in hits with 32 and RBIs with 26.
