The grand jury chose not to indict two former University of Kentucky students accused of rape and strangulation on UK’s campus, according to court records.
Both former students’ charges and cases were dismissed.
The grand jury issued a “no true bill,” Feb. 9, meaning the jury found insufficient evidence to move the case forward, according to the Handbook for Federal Grand Jurors.
Addison Adkins and Angus Thompson were arrested March 3, 2025, after a UK student reported to UKPD she had been raped, according to former Kentucky Kernel reporting.
The incident allegedly occurred in Ball Hall on the evening of Feb. 18, 2025, and was reported to UKPD on Feb. 22, 2025.
The victim also told police Adkins strangled her during the alleged rape.
Thompson was charged with 1st-degree rape, and Adkins was charged with 1st-degree rape and 2nd-degree strangulation, according to the arrest warrant.
After arrest warrants were issued for both Adkins and Thompson, UK suspended and banned them from campus, according to former Kernel reporting.
According to the Lexington jail website, Adkins and Thompson posted a $25,000 bond and were both released.
The Kernel asked UK if the students could return to campus, but have yet to receive a response from the university.
