No. 17 Kentucky women’s basketball (10-1) defeated Central Michigan (5-4) 82-55.
This was the Wildcats first game in Historic Memorial Coliseum in nearly three weeks, going 4-1 during this road stint.
This 27 point win was Kentucky’s seventh win by more than 25 points this season.
Kentucky shot 34-68 (50%) from the field and Central Michigan shot 21-53 (39.6%).
Teonni Key tied her season high with 17 points on 8-10 (80%) shooting, also grabbing 11 rebounds for her second double-double this season.
Tonie Morgan recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 assists.
Kentucky had three other players finish in double-digit scoring. These players were Jordan Obi (14), Clara Strack (14) and Asia Boone (11).
The Wildcats had 25 assists, reaching that mark for the third time this season.
Kentucky forced 15 turnovers and scored 15 points off of turnovers.
Kentucky missed its first shot of the game before making six shots in a row, half of these from Obi. This gave Kentucky a 12-4 lead after 3:40 of action.
After the Wildcats hot start, Central Michigan’s defense began to make them work a little harder. Kentucky went scoreless over a two minute span, with back-to-back possessions ending in forced shots at the end of the shot clock.
Lexi Blue sank a buzzer-beating mid-range shot to extend Kentucky’s lead to 25-17 after one quarter.
Kentucky’s first-quarter offense was very paint heavy. The Cats had 20 of its 23 points off field goals come in the paint, the other two points came from the free throw line.
The Cats shot 11-18 (61.1%) from the field in the first quarter, the Chippewas shot 7-14 (50%).
Obi had eight points on 4-4 shooting in the quarter.
The Wildcats shot 5-6 from the field half way through the second quarter. Both teams made three field goals in a row heading into the media timeout at 4:52.
Kentucky held a 14 point lead with 3:33 until halftime, the Wildcats then missed six straight shots heading into halftime. CMU made four of its last five shots in the half and cut Kentucky’s lead to seven.
Central Michigan shot 9-14 (64.3%) in the second quarter to outscore Kentucky 21-20.
Kentucky held a 45-38 lead at the break.
The Cats shot 18-32 (56.3%) from the field in the quarter and Central Michigan shot 16-28 (57.1%).
Both teams had nearly half of their points come from the paint in the first half. Kentucky had 24 (53.3%) and Central Michigan had 18 (47.4%).
Obi led the Wildcats in scoring at the Half with 12 points on 6-9 shooting. Tonie Morgan had 10 points and seven assists.
Strack had eight points and four rebounds on 4-5 shooting, with two blocks and two steals.
Central Michigan was held scoreless for the first five minutes of the second half, Kentucky mounted an 12-0 run in this stretch to extend its lead to 57-38.
Kentucky outscored Central Michigan 21-9 in the third quarter, taking a 66-47 lead.
Key had the same amount of points in the third quarter as Central Michigan’s team, with nine points on 4-4 shooting.
The Wildcats shot 9-17 (52.9%) in the quarter, and held the Chippewas to 3-12 (25%).
Kentucky doubled its steal and block total in the third quarter, recording three steals and three blocks.
Central Michigan went five minutes without a made field goal to start the fourth quarter as well, Kentucky put together an 11-1 run to pull ahead by 29 points.
Kentucky outscored Central Michigan 16-8 in the fourth quarter to pick up a 27 point win.
Central Michigan was held to 20% shooting in the second half after shooting 57% in the first half.
With this win, Kentucky has improved to 10-1 for the 12th time in program history.
The Wildcats will head back on the road for their next game, taking on Belmont on Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. ET.
