Kentucky baseball (25-19, 10-13 SEC) fell in walk off fashion 6-5 against Mississippi State (28-19, 9-14 SEC) in 11 innings to lose series.
The Wildcats came into game two looking to turn the page after getting blown out 14-4 in game one of the doubleheader.
Both teams were kept off the scoreboard in the first inning before the Bulldogs opened the scoring on a two-run home run by Hunter Hines in the second.
The deficit was short-lived for Kentucky as Tyler Bell launched a home run 451-feet out of the stadium to score Luke Lawrence and tie the game 2-2.
Like the Bulldogs lead before, the tie did not last long as the Bulldogs tagged Nic McCay for back-to-back one-out home runs in the third.
Later in the inning, Bell fielded a groundball and tried to throw the runner out at third, but botched the throw, which allowed a run to score and for Mississippi State to extend its lead to 5-2.
Cole Hage kept the offense rolling with a triple to kick off the fourth and Ryan Schwartz traded places with him on a triple of his own.
Following a flyout, Devin Burkes drew a walk and stole second.
Lawrence brought home Schwartz on a single and James McCoy hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Burkes and tie the game 5-5.
Following the Bat Cats rally in the fourth, the game entered a complete stalemate as pitching took over.
The trio of McCay, Jackson Nove and Simon Gregersen combined for six hitless innings before Gregersen gave up a two-out single in the ninth.
It was no different for the Bat Cats as they were held hitless from the fourth until the top of the 10th.
Despite both teams getting back into the hit column, neither of them scored as the game went into the 11th inning.
The Wildcats had a chance to break the tie in the 11th after Burkes and Lawrence reached with one out. McCoy moved them both into scoring position on a groundout. However, Bell grounded out to end the frame and nullify the threat to keep the game tied 5-5.
Byrce Chance tagged Gregersen with a double to leadoff the 11th. Gregersen fended off the Bulldogs for one out with a strikeout, but Joe Powell poked a single into left to end the game in heartbreaking fashion.
The Kentucky bullpen was sensational as it only gave up one earned run in 4 1/3 innings.
The offense struggled in game two as the Bat Cats were 5-37 in the game, which is a .135 batting average. Furthermore, Kentucky was 2-8 with runners in scoring position, which equals out to a .250 average.
Following the loss, Kentucky will look to avoid the sweep in game three against Mississippi State on Sunday, May 4, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. ET.
